The enmity and jealousy that develops between the cousins forces the Pandavas to leave the kingdom when their father dies. During their exile the five jointly marry Draupadi (who is born out of a sacrificial fire and whom Arjuna wins by shooting an arrow through a row of targets) and meet their cousin Krishna, who remains their friend and companion thereafter.
The Mahabharata has been adapted into various forms of media, such as television series, films, comics, books, games, and more. One of the most popular adaptations is Mahabharat, a Hindi television series that aired on Doordarshan from 1988 to 1990. It was produced by B.R. Chopra and directed by his son Ravi Chopra.
